Bombay Oud is Ahmed Al Maghribi's nod to India, and it is built around a contrast: bright Sicilian orange and rose at the top, then a heart of sandalwood, pear and leather, settling into musk, amber, benzoin and oud.

The pear and leather in the middle are what make it unusual — most oud fragrances in this bracket go straight from citrus to wood, and this one puts a soft fruity-leathery stage in between. The oud in the base is smooth and resinous rather than barnyard, with benzoin giving it a sweet balsamic edge. Honest note: this is a richer, more expensive scent than the Arabian-house fragrances most people start with, and it wears accordingly — strong projection, long life, and genuinely too much for a daytime office in summer.
