Flower by Kenzo is one of the most recognisable fragrances ever made, and the bottle is half the reason: a single curved poppy, chosen because the real flower has almost no scent of its own. Alberto Morillas built the scent as an imagined answer to what a poppy ought to smell like, and it became a modern classic.

This is the Eau de Toilette, the lighter and fresher of the two main concentrations. It opens bright with Sicilian lemon, ginger and mandarin, settles into a soft heart of damask rose, rose water and mimosa, and finishes on white musk, vanilla and amber. Powdery and clean rather than sweet, it reads as quietly expensive instead of attention-seeking.

It suits daytime more than night: office, college, lunches and warm weather, where the citrus opening and light musk base stay comfortable in heat. Moderate projection and moderate longevity, so expect to reapply once across a long day.

How is the Eau de Toilette different from the Eau de Parfum?

The Eau de Parfum is the original and the richer of the two: rounder, more powdery, with the rose and vanilla sitting heavier on the skin. The Eau de Toilette is brighter and more citrus-led at the opening and lighter through the drydown, which makes it the easier one to wear in Indian heat and to an office. If you want the fuller, cosier version, choose the Eau de Parfum.

Is this fragrance right for you?

If you want a clean, powdery floral that signals polish without announcing itself, this is a safe and well-loved choice. If you prefer bold, sweet or gourmand fragrances with heavy projection, this will feel too soft and too quiet.
