Colonia is the fragrance Acqua di Parma was built on. It was blended in Parma in 1916, originally to perfume gentlemen's handkerchiefs, and the formula has been left essentially alone ever since. It opens on Sicilian lemon, sweet orange and Calabrian bergamot — bright, clean and immediately recognisable — then settles through lavender, Bulgarian rose and verbena into a soft base of vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood and white musk. It smells like laundered linen and citrus peel, and it is one of the few fragrances that reads as genuinely timeless rather than merely old.

This is a light, refined scent for daytime, the office and warm weather. It suits anyone who finds most modern fragrances too sweet or too loud. Wear it in the morning, wear it after a shower, wear it when you want to smell clean and expensive rather than noticed.

Is this fragrance right for you?

If you want the reference Italian cologne — understated, elegant and impossible to get wrong — this is it, and it works particularly well as an everyday scent in Indian heat where heavier fragrances become oppressive. Be clear on what it is, though: Eau de Cologne is the lightest concentration a house makes. It is built to refresh, not to project across a room, so it sits close to the skin and fades sooner than an Eau de Parfum. That is intentional. If you want all-day performance, Colonia Intensa or the Signatures of the Sun range will serve you better.

Can I change or cancel my order?
